Torrey House Press publishes fiction and nonfiction with an orientation toward the environment of the American West for the adult book market trade. We are looking in particular for creative and compelling nonfiction storytelling written for a general audience and for literary fiction with a nonfiction, American West, natural world theme. In today’s polarized political environment the value of wilderness and of natural places is often being questioned and dismissed. Beautiful places are being sacrificed unnecessarily with the misguided perception of creating economic value or jobs. In fact, in much of the relatively undeveloped West, the land is most valuable to the public in its natural state. We believe that lively, philosophical, literary storytelling can help create the public awareness necessary to best steward what we have and help inform an enlightened way of life in the New West.

Are Post Traumatic Stress, Viet Nam Syndrome, Battle Fatigue, and Shell Shock exclusive products of current wars or did emotional psychiatric disorders exist following the Civil War?
This is the foundation for my 83,000 word novel THE WAR WITHIN.
William Morgan a Confederate veteran, lost everything during the war. Cathleen O’Donnell, a Boston debutant, has lost her family and innocence to Comanche Indians. They must heal each other to escape Red Wolf whose way of life is being destroyed by the expanding post war white population…
An old Texas proverb says ” Texas is a great country for men and dogs; but hell on women and horses.” 1870 Texas is the setting for THE WAR VWITHIN.

Hi Robert. Thanks for checking in. Your novel sounds interesting and with a unique angle but it is not quite what we are looking for at this time. All the best and please keep in touch with your progress on getting published. -Mark Bailey

Read your upcoming titles list, thought my little book might work for you. In all modesty I have hopes it might take off like Jonathon Livingston Seagull. It is unique, the title “Serenity: A Russian Elf in the Twenty First Century.” Tells about elves in the modern world in which we live today. Their race has become so diluted over the long centuries, that only sparks of their former flame is ever evident. If two such folk of the fair race should meet and marry, the results are often more dramatic. Such is the parentage of Milton L. Ross. I live in Levan, my phone will be back up by morning. My book is about ninety pages.
Thanks, Jerry. We will give it a read.
